Treacle Scones

1lb SR flour

2 level teaspoons baking soda (bicarbonate of soda not baking powder)

2 level teaspoons ground cinnamon

2 level teaspoons mixed spice

half a teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons treacle

2 ounces butter

milk to mix

Put the butter on a saucer and put it on the girdle to melt at a low heat. Combine all dry ingredients in a good mixing bowl and add the treacle and the butter when melted. Mix with the milk to form a soft dough. Turn out onto a floured surface and divide into 4 balls. Roll each ball to a half inch thick round and divide into four by cutting straight through each diameter of the circle. Cook on a low heat on the girdle until the scones rise and turn when they are sufficiently browned. Serve with good butter and as with pancakes they will freeze and return to fresh baked straight from the freezer with a couple of minutes at a low microwave setting.
