Great to see the old photos and comments. I lived in Catrine from 1958 to 1967 and spent all my primary school years in the village. My father was Bert Dunlop, the village "bobby" and we lived in what was the Police Station at 9 Ballochmyle Street just opposite the "Congregational Church". Both my mother and father are still with us being 83 and 79 years old and living happily in Girvan where they retired from their Police and Nursing careers. Would be pleased to hear from anyone who knows me or family and wants some history. Would love to see our old house again as I'm sure it has changed beyond recognition

Lived on St Cuthbert street, moved to USA at age of 15 in 1957. I enjoy the site. Nice to see familiar faces in the school pics

Admin reply: Don't know if you are any relation to the Raymond who was in the previous entry but I have replied to him about Hugh and Nan Hood, Maybe anyone else who knows the Hoods could help him discover more about the family.

Hi there looking for info on my great great grandfather and his family . His father and he were photographers in Catrine . Also looking for copies of postcards published by their firm around 1900 . hope someone can help. cheers Ray. Hood

Admin reply: I was always aware of the Hoods Postcards and some of the photos I have been given over the years were either Duncan or Hood or Gibb. My only living memory of Hoods in Catrine were of Hugh and Nan Hood. Brother and sister who lived in Shawlands Street where I was born. A bachelor and a spinster. They were lovely people. I don't know if it was Hugh or Nan or maybe both of them that played piano but they had a baby Grand in their upstairs council house. Hugh used to take the car out on a Sunday and wash it and put it back in the garage for the rest of the week after church. Except on special occasions.May nearly reached the letter from the queen but I think she died in Affleck House in her late ninties

Rab,
I have my mum's old Catrine school photograph for Primary 4? dated c 1928. She was Peggy McVittie and she lived at High Clews. She moved to Mauchline in 1928-29. I know Tommy Murray later Technical Teacher at Cumnock Academy was in the photo. Can I send you a copy by email?

Greetings Rab,
I truly enjoyed reading and viewing your site. You have done a wonderful job!
I am searching on behalf of Valerie Wilson for information on her grandfather, Thomas Campbell, who lived at 18 Riverside Crescent, Catrine in 1946 (for sure) and was still alive in 1956 when his daughter (Valerie's mother) died at age 29. Valerie was aged 5. We do not know her grandmother's name whom we believe died years prior.
If there is a newspaper archive would it be possible for you to find his obituary or provide me with a contact? He was born around 1900 and assume he is deceased.
Thank you so much for any information or links you may provide.

Hi Rab,

Not sure if you can help, I have discovered that most of my Ancestors on my father’s side were born in or worked in Catrine ,

I believe that my Grandfather “James Anderson” nickname Tartan Anderson worked on the railways as a carter, I think this is a horse & cart delivery for the railway station.
He was born in Wood Street Catrine in 1892 and died in Catrine on 1928.
When he died his wife moved to Darvel with Mary her daughter and her two sons James & Hugh were brought up by Michael McCluskie in Catrine.

Any info or details about Tartan Anderson would be great
Thanks

Jim Anderson
