My gran Betty Watson lived here until recently until she passed, she loved the village and it was a beautiful place to visit . I don't think I'll ever come back but it will Always be in our hearts .

Admin reply: I was sorry to here Betty had died recently. Your Gran and Grampa were our next door neighbours in Shawlands street when I was just a youngster in the 50's.

Looking at the old photographs on your web site brought back a load of memories - I used to live with my parents on Riverside rd /villas (I think that's what it was called)it was just across the road from the school next to the bridge.
I've just checked Catrine out on Google street view and I am amazed that the School is no longer there and the new mill as been demolished (My Dad was the manager at the mill in the 60's)We moved away from Catrine in 1966.
Its a shame that I cant find my school photograph from that year. I do remember that for some reason some of my schools classes were held at the Brown Institute, just before the connecting foot bridge was sweep away during a storm.
Is Jacobs ladder still on the slope leading to Ballochmyle.
I used to carry my golf clubs all the way up these to get to the golf club.
Keep up the good work with the website, if I can locate any photographs from the 60's I will send you them, I know my Dad took quite a few when we lived there.

Steve

Glad to see the webside is still thriving Rab.
My father Jim Raeside died last year aged 103 and his last wish was to be buried in the family grave at Catrine which I was glad to take care of for him. He was brought up in the Red Lion and never quite accepted the way it ended up. A Happy New Year to all in Catrine.

I was thrilled to find this page. I am doing ancestry research and am trying to track down a Hugh McCluskie, married to an Mary Lumsden from Muirkirk. Mary was born in 1911 so I'm assuming that Hugh would be born around the same time. Hugh worked in the mines and as I understand it, they had 2 or 3 children. If they married in the 1930's, they would start having their children then and be off to school.
I see a John McCluskie went to school in Catrine in the 1950's so am hoping this is a relative of the people I am looking.
My connection to all of this is my grandmother, Margaret Christina Lumsden - born in 1902 was a sister to Mary, so Hugh would have been her brother-in-law.
thanks
Iva Lindsay
